How long do ballistic helmets last?

Ballistic helmets are an important part of military life; strictly, they are tools of protection that have stood the test of time. However, there is just that number of years you can use a thing for before it stops being effective. In the place of helmets, there are just a number of years you can use them for before they stop being fully effective.

The integral nature of these helmets to the safety of soldiers makes it necessary to be exposed to how long they last. The information is to eliminate putting the soldiers at unnecessary risks. Examples of ballistic helmets include the Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH), the Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH) and the latest, the Integrated Head System Protection (IHPS).

They are made from a material known as “Kevlar.” It has been tested and discovered to provide a high level of ballistic protection that increases the survival rate of soldiers. Notwithstanding, they come with an expiry date of five years. The implication is that the higher the number of years the helmet is used for, the more it diminishes or that its components diminish.

Importantly, the numbers of years they can be used for doesn’t make them lesser tools of protection, but that their level of performance reduces. Hence, soldiers should always be ready to change their helmets every five years. Notably, it isn’t impossible that some will still be effective after 5 years but it doesn’t hurt to play safe always.

Ballistic helmets have remained great inventions that have saved and that continue to save the lives of many soldiers. However, they shouldn’t be used for too long because of the different components they are made of that have diminished efficiency the longer they are used. The safety of soldiers remains a priority, and all tools of protection used by them should always be replaced in a timely manner.
